Democratic Party Publicly Releases Redistricting Data

The Democratic Party is publicly releasing data that can be used for redistricting purposes. From Mike Conlow of the Democratic National Committee:

Our first OpenDemocrats post has an initial look at the new geography files that are coming out, and a translation file between 2000 and 2010 census blocks for Virginia.

This translation file enables the Census Bureau's 2010 population data to be integrated with 2000 census data. This data preparation is a necessary step to use American Community Survey data during redistricting.

You can follow their data releases at open.democrats.org. We welcome efforts by the political parties and state governments to promote public participation in redistricting and make the process more transparent.
